LED Display Color Calibration: Uniformity, Coefficients and Field Checks
LED display color calibration aims to reduce visible differences in brightness and chromaticity across pixels, modules and cabinets. A uniform image also depends on hardware consistency, correct mapping, stable operating conditions and suitable measurement methods. Calibration can correct defined variations; it cannot repair every hardware defect.

What LED calibration is designed to correct
LED emitters and display assemblies can vary across manufacturing batches, temperatures and operating conditions. Pixel-level calibration seeks a consistent output target using measured data and suitable correction coefficients. It is important to distinguish brightness correction from chromaticity correction and from display color-management settings.
Brightness and chroma calibration
Brightness calibration targets differences in luminance. Chroma calibration works with color-coordinate differences. In its official CalCube MiniLED manual, NovaStar describes high-precision calibration suitable for common COB screens and brightness/chroma calibration suitable for common SMD screens, alongside grayscale-specific choices. These are descriptions of software workflows, not universal restrictions on package types.

Measurements, files and coefficient storage
A calibration process may use imaging equipment or other measurement tools, screen mapping and calibration coefficients associated with pixels, modules or cabinets.
NovaStar NovaLCT documentation describes saving and loading calibration coefficients, including screen and cabinet data. Colorlight iSet likewise distinguishes coefficients stored in receiver or module contexts. The correct procedure must match the installed controller and hardware.
Factory calibration versus onsite calibration
Factory processing can establish reference uniformity under controlled conditions. Onsite adjustments may be required following transport, cabinet replacement, installation or changes in environment. Record test conditions and protect configuration backups before modifying coefficients.
Replacing a cabinet or module
Replacement parts must match the approved hardware and calibration workflow. A screen-level coefficient file may depend on pixel positions, while cabinet-level data can be managed differently. If an installer changes hardware without managing the corresponding coefficient data, visible seams can remain even when the modules otherwise function.

Priority product examples: Jade COB and DC Series
For JYVISIONS, Jade COB and DC Series are the priority technical products to associate with calibration education.
Actual calibration systems, data retention and factory acceptance records must be confirmed for the specific configuration. Avoid promising universal pixel-perfect matching or quantified improvement without test records.
How to evaluate calibration performance
Request a full-screen test sequence, defined brightness and color targets, documented measurement conditions, an approved before/after method, the controller software version and a plan for later replacement parts. Assess performance under the actual lighting and viewing conditions of the installation.
Factory calibration at module, cabinet and full-screen scale
JYVISIONS Jade COB supports module-level calibration, cabinet-level calibration and factory full-screen calibration.
For a fixed-size project, the factory can assemble the complete screen in its final dimensions and perform whole-screen brightness and chromaticity calibration. This can optimize uniformity for that mapped configuration, while module/cabinet correction may offer more flexibility during installation and service.
Installation numbering, Flash coefficients and module replacement
For position-dependent full-screen calibration, the factory numbers the modules or cabinets and installation should follow the assigned map.
Jade modules include Flash memory for calibration data and NovaStar-based calibration tools are used.
After replacement, coefficient data can be read or restored where the exact receiving-card, module-Flash and software workflow supports it. Verify IDs, coefficient mappings and the resulting image; never promise that any arbitrarily swapped module retains mathematically identical uniformity.
Confirmed scope of factory calibration
All current Jade COB products are factory calibrated using NovaStar. In the DC range, factory calibration was specifically confirmed for P0.9, P1.25 and P1.5 configurations. Do not represent this as an unconditional factory practice for every other DC SKU.
Calibration Scope and Service Implications
| Calibration stage | Typical task | Evidence or service check |
|---|---|---|
| Module | Correct local luminance/chromaticity variation | Record correction-file and module identification |
| Cabinet | Match cabinet response and adjacent units | Verify cabinet order and configuration |
| Full screen | Check installed uniformity and visible seams | Inspect with reference patterns under use conditions |
| Post-replacement | Restore approved correction data and mapping | Recheck replaced position; recalibrate if needed |
