Transparent LED Display: The Complete Guide to Technology, Selection & Project Engineering
Transparent LED displays allow digital content to share a space with architecture, products, daylight and physical sightlines instead of replacing them with a completely opaque screen.
Today, transparent LED is no longer limited to a screen installed behind glass. Depending on the technology and product architecture, a transparent display can be integrated with glass, suspended in an atrium, built into a movable advertising display, used for exhibitions and temporary brand spaces, configured for curved or creative structures, or engineered into a large building façade.
That wider application range changes how transparent LED should be selected. Transparency still matters, but so do pixel pitch, brightness, viewing distance, content, deployment method, structural conditions, installation capability, maintenance access, mobility, budget and the project schedule.
The best transparent LED display is therefore not the product with the highest transparency, smallest pixel pitch or highest brightness. It is the system that best balances visual performance, physical openness, installation, serviceability and the real purpose of the project.

What Is a Transparent LED Display
A transparent LED display is a direct-view LED screen designed to show digital content while allowing part of the environment behind the screen to remain visible.
A conventional LED video wall forms an opaque digital surface. Transparent LED uses open, thin or highly transparent physical structures around the LED pixels so background light, merchandise, architecture or sightlines can remain visible through part of the display.
This makes transparent LED useful when the physical environment behind the screen has real value. Examples include a retail window where products should remain visible, an automotive showroom where vehicles must stay in view, an atrium where visual openness matters, an exhibition where the booth should not feel closed, or a glass facade where digital media must coexist with the architecture.
Transparent LED is a technology category rather than one single construction. JYVISIONS currently develops three main transparent LED product families: LUCID transparent LED screens, FILM self-adhesive transparent LED film and INV holographic transparent LED screens.
Transparent LED Screen, Transparent LED Display, Clear LED and See-Through LED
Transparent LED screen and transparent LED display are commonly used for the same broad category of LED systems that show digital content while preserving varying levels of visibility through or around the display. Buyers may also search for clear LED screen or see-through LED display when the main requirement is to keep glass, products, interiors or architectural sightlines visible. These market terms do not define one single hardware structure. Serviceable transparent LED screens, self-adhesive LED film and holographic-style transparent LED systems can all serve transparent display applications, but their installation, serviceability, transparency, brightness and project fit differ.
If the project brief uses ambiguous terms such as LED glass, glass LED display, LED film or holographic LED, compare LED glass vs transparent LED technologies before selecting the product architecture.
In practice, transparent LED technology includes several different architectures rather than one single screen structure.

How Does a Transparent LED Screen Work
A transparent LED screen works by combining light-emitting pixels with physical areas that remain open, thin or highly transparent.
The LED pixels create the image. At the same time, the screen architecture leaves enough open or transparent area for part of the background light to pass through. The exact method depends on the product structure.
Lucid transparent LED screen uses open-structure LED modules and serviceable panels. Transparent LED film integrates LEDs and circuitry into a thin film architecture. A holographic transparent LED screen minimizes visible support structures around the LED pixels to create a highly transparent, floating-like digital effect.
Although these products look different, the project principle is the same: the display must create enough digital image performance without unnecessarily blocking the environment behind it.

Why Can You See Through a Transparent LED Screen?
You can see through a transparent LED screen because a significant part of the display area does not fully block light.
However, a transparency percentage does not completely predict what a finished project will look like. LED density, PCB or circuit width, structural frames, cable visibility, viewing angle, background brightness, glass reflections, content and viewing distance all affect perceived transparency.
Rated Transparency vs Perceived Transparency
Rated transparency is a product specification. Perceived transparency is the visual result of the complete installation.
A screen with a high rated transparency can still feel visually heavier if the supporting structure, cables, reflection or viewing position is unfavorable. Likewise, bright full-screen content can visually dominate the physical background even though the screen itself remains highly transparent.
For buyer decisions, compare the finished system and its real environment rather than relying on one transparency percentage.
TAKEAWAY
Rated transparency is measured on the product. Perceived transparency is created by the product, installation, content and environment together.
Transparency, Pixel Pitch and Viewing Distance
Transparency, pixel pitch and viewing distance should be selected together.
Smaller pixel pitch generally increases pixel density and image detail for closer viewing. However, increasing the amount of LED and electronic structure within the same area can reduce the open or transparent area, depending on the display architecture.
Viewing distance changes what the audience can see. A premium retail window viewed from close range may benefit from a finer pixel pitch. A large atrium, hanging installation or media facade viewed from much farther away may use a wider pitch while still delivering the required visual result.
The correct question is therefore not only, “What pitch is available?” It is, “What image detail is required at the real viewing distance, and how much transparency does the project actually need?”
Brightness and Daylight Visibility
Brightness is important, but maximum brightness should not become the default specification for every project.
Transparent LED does not operate against a controlled opaque background. Viewers may see interior lighting, sunlight, reflections, merchandise, buildings or sky behind the content. This means perceived contrast can change significantly with the environment.
JYVISIONS therefore evaluates ambient light, direct or indirect sunlight, window orientation, glass transmission, reflections, viewing direction, content and intended operating hours when selecting brightness.
A display used mainly at night can have a different requirement from a storefront or building façade expected to perform throughout the day.
Transparent LED Is a Balancing System, Not a Specification Race
Transparent LED is best understood as a system of trade-offs rather than a competition for the highest transparency, smallest pixel pitch or highest brightness. A real project must balance visual performance, physical openness, integration, operation and commercial fit.
Visual performance includes pixel density, contrast, brightness, viewing distance and content detail. Physical openness includes transparency, visible structure, sightlines and the amount of the real environment that must remain visible. Integration covers glass, structural mounting, hanging, freestanding and architectural interfaces. Operation includes installation, protection, serviceability and reuse. Commercial fit includes customization, project risk, quotation readiness and lifecycle requirements.
This is why one specification cannot identify the ‘best’ transparent LED. The correct architecture is the one that produces the right balance for the actual space and buyer objective.

One Transparent LED Project, Different Stakeholder Questions
A transparent LED project is rarely evaluated by only one role. A brand owner may begin with visibility, content and customer experience. An architect or facade consultant may focus on daylight, glazing, sightlines, fixing conditions and the visual integrity of the building. An AV integrator must think about control, signal, power, commissioning and how the display joins the wider media system. An installer or contractor needs accurate dimensions, access, cable routes and a sequence that can be executed on site.
The owner or facility team eventually cares about service access, spare parts, cleaning, repair and reuse. These perspectives explain why a supplier-only product comparison is not enough for a pillar guide. Transparent LED becomes a successful project only when the display architecture works with the space, content, building, integration and operating plan.
Three Generations of JYVISIONS Transparent LED Technology
JYVISIONS’ transparent LED portfolio has developed through three product architectures. The technologies overlap in some applications, but each generation solves the project differently.
For current commercial configurations, explore the JYVISIONS transparent LED screen product family.
LUCID — Transparent LED Screen

LUCID is the transparent LED architecture in the JYVISIONS portfolio. It uses rigid, serviceable panels and is particularly relevant when structural stability, modular maintenance, large installation size or high-brightness configurations are important.
LUCID can be installed behind glass, integrated with engineered frames, used in showrooms and atriums, and adapted to large permanent commercial or architectural transparent LED projects.
Because the LED pixels are exposed in standard configurations, handling and site conditions should be considered during installation. Where a project needs additional physical protection, JYVISIONS can evaluate protection options such as front or rear PC protective panels and GOB treatment. Selected configurations may also support protective mask solutions. The appropriate option depends on the environment, contact risk, maintenance approach and visual requirements.
FILM — Self-Adhesive Transparent LED Film

FILM is an ultra-thin, lightweight transparent LED film designed for direct integration with suitable glass surfaces.
Its film architecture minimizes conventional cabinet structure and can preserve a high level of visual openness. It is particularly relevant for storefronts, glass partitions and architectural glazing where direct-to-glass installation and low structural load are priorities.
FILM can also support selected curved or customized glass applications. Because the display is bonded to the surface, glass condition, panel layout, installation procedure and future service planning should be reviewed before production.
INV — Holographic Transparent LED Screen

INV is JYVISIONS’ holographic transparent LED screen technology. It combines a highly transparent display architecture with minimal visible structure, fine pixel pitch options and strong contrast for close-view and premium visual environments.
The market term “holographic” describes the floating-like digital effect created when bright content appears against a highly transparent physical structure.
INV uses physical LED pixels; it is not an optical hologram. INV supports multiple deployment formats depending on configuration, including glass mounting, hanging and floor-standing poster formats. Its flexible structure can also support selected curved and customized
transparent installations.
LUCID vs FILM vs INV: Which Transparent LED Technology Should You Choose?
There is no universal winner between LUCID, FILM and INV. JYVISIONS does not choose a transparent LED product from one headline specification.
In real project discussions, the recommendation depends on the use scenario, the customer’s budget acceptance, project positioning and the engineering experience available for installation. Deployment method, environment, geometry, viewing distance, brightness, mobility, reuse and maintenance expectations can further change the decision.
| Decision factor | LUCID | FILM | INV |
|---|---|---|---|
| Primary technology | LUCID transparent LED screen | Self-adhesive transparent LED film | Holographic transparent LED screen |
| Physical architecture | Rigid modular / serviceable structure | Ultra-thin film structure | Highly transparent, minimal-visible-structure architecture |

| Best answer | Depends on project conditions | Depends on project conditions | Depends on project conditions |
How Much Physical Protection Does a Transparent LED Project Need?
Protection requirements vary by environment. A transparent display in a protected showroom does not face the same physical risks as a bar, public retail area, temporary event installation or frequently handled display.
For LUCID, the standard open LED structure supports transparency and direct service access, but selected projects may benefit from additional protection. JYVISIONS can evaluate front or rear PC protective panels when the display needs a physical barrier around the LEDs. GOB treatment can provide more direct protection to the LED and module surface. Selected pitches may also support mask options.
For environments exposed to mist, humidity or similar conditions, surface treatment and protection should be evaluated during project engineering rather than after installation.
The correct protection level should therefore be matched to the actual risk. More protection is not automatically necessary for every transparent LED project.
How Tinted or Low-Transmission Glass Changes the Result?
The glass itself can change transparent LED visibility.
When a display is installed behind tinted or lower-transmission glass and faces outward, the glass reduces part of the emitted light before it reaches the viewer. This can lower perceived brightness and contrast even when the LED display specification has not changed.
For this reason, JYVISIONS may ask for the visible light transmission of the glass before recommending a configuration. For uncertain projects, a sample or visual test can be more useful than assuming the result from the LED specification alone.
For new-build façades, early coordination is preferable because glass transmission, tint, coating, structure and the LED visual goal can be considered together.
Transparent LED vs Conventional LED Wall

Transparent LED and conventional LED solve different visual problems.
A conventional LED wall creates an opaque digital canvas and can provide stronger image density and contrast when seeing through the display has no project value.
Transparent LED makes sense when background visibility, natural light, merchandise, vehicles, architectural openness or another physical layer needs to remain part of the experience.
If the project has no meaningful transparency requirement, JYVISIONS may recommend a conventional LED solution instead of forcing a transparent product into the project.
BUYER TAKEAWAY
The right display is not always a transparent display.
Transparent LED vs Transparent OLED

Transparent LED and transparent OLED can both combine digital content with a visible physical background, but they are generally considered for different project scales and environments.
Transparent OLED can be attractive for smaller, close-view premium installations. Transparent LED can scale to larger surfaces and offers a broader range of brightness, structure and architectural deployment options.
The better choice depends on display size, viewing distance, brightness, serviceability, environment, integration method and complete project cost rather than transparency alone.
How Content Changes the Transparent LED Effect?

Transparent LED does not look equally transparent with every piece of content.
Dense, bright full-screen content can visually dominate the background. Dark or black backgrounds with isolated bright objects, logos, particles, outlines or typography can strengthen the floating visual effect because black pixels emit little or no visible light.
This is especially important for INV and other highly transparent display architectures, where content design can influence how strongly the physical screen disappears from the viewer’s attention.
The content strategy should therefore support the reason the project selected transparent LED in the first place.
Where and How Are Transparent LED Displays Used?
Transparent LED applications are more accurately understood by deployment method than by industry alone.
Two projects inside the same retail brand can require different technologies if one is bonded to glass, another is suspended and a third is designed as a movable advertising display.
JYVISIONS Transparent LED Project Evidence
Public case studies are only one part of JYVISIONS’ transparent LED experience. Some projects can be shown openly, while other client installations remain confidential. JYVISIONS therefore uses a combination of public cases, anonymous field experience and engineering lessons to improve product selection and project guidance. How Is a Transparent LED Display Installed?
Transparent LED installation is generally straightforward when the correct product, drawings, installation sequence and site preparation are defined before work begins.
JYVISIONS provides drawings, manuals and installation guidance, and remote engineering support can be used for control-system configuration and commissioning when needed.
The physical method depends on the technology. Common approaches include direct glass mounting, structural or frame mounting, suspended installation, hanging posters, floor-standing displays, temporary exhibition installation and large architectural integration.
For the full factory-to-site workflow, see the transparent LED installation and commissioning guide.
FILM Direct-to-Glass Installation
FILM installation begins with suitable glass preparation. The surface must be cleaned, the film positioned correctly and trapped water or air removed according to the installation procedure.
JYVISIONS field experience shows that installation discipline matters. Large bubbles or poor adhesion can create long-term problems. The film should also be laid out so that unnecessary crossing of major glass joints is avoided where the project design allows.
After bonding, the specified fixing or settling procedure should be completed before additional load such as the power box is introduced. This step helps the film develop stable adhesion to the glass.
LUCID Modular Installation
LUCID uses a structural modular approach. The project team should plan fixing points, screen alignment, supporting structure, cable routing and maintenance access.
Standard exposed LEDs should be protected from direct impact during handling. Where the installation team, public environment or application creates a higher contact risk, PC protection panels or GOB treatment can be evaluated before production.
INV Glass, Hanging and Floor-Standing Installation
INV supports different installation formats depending on model, including glass mounting, hanging and floor-standing poster configurations. Curved applications may also be possible when the required radius and dimensions match the selected product and engineering design.
For mobile or poster formats, plug-and-play deployment can simplify daily use, but transport, handling, power, signal and physical protection should still be considered as part of the operating plan.
Installation Sequence and Screen Mapping
Physical installation and logical configuration must follow the approved screen layout. JYVISIONS has encountered projects where display sections were installed in a different order from the factory configuration, causing incorrect image mapping during playback.
This is normally a configuration issue rather than a product failure. JYVISIONS engineers can support customers remotely by correcting mapping and control-system settings.
What Is Different About a Large Building or Glass Curtain-Wall Project?
For a large building façade, a request for price is often only the beginning of the project discussion. A meaningful quotation normally comes after the basic engineering conditions are understood.
The first question is whether the curtain wall already exists or is still being designed. An existing façade forces the LED system to adapt to the current building. A new-build project can allow the glass, structure, access and LED integration to be coordinated earlier.
Existing Curtain Wall: Information JYVISIONS Needs
·Curtain-wall structural type, such as framed or point-supported / spider fitting
·Detailed façade dimensions and elevation drawings
·Glass specification and visible light transmission
·Available fixing conditions and installation depth
·Maintenance access
·Power and signal routing
·Whether the installation spans multiple floors
·Inter-floor fire-stop / barrier details where cross-floor installation is involved
·Daytime + nighttime use or mainly nighttime operation
·Advertising use or architectural / landscape enhancement
·Site ambient-light conditions
·Current project stage
·Target completion date

Why Early Involvement Helps on New-Build Projects?
If JYVISIONS can participate while the curtain wall is still being planned, the design team has more options.
From the display side, higher visible light transmission and lower unwanted tint can improve the final transparent effect. However, glass selection must also satisfy architectural, thermal, structural, safety and local regulatory requirements. The goal is not to prescribe one universal glass type, but to coordinate facade performance and LED visual performance early.
Early involvement can also improve mounting access, cable routing, service space and screen segmentation before the architecture is fixed.

How Is a Transparent LED Display Maintained Over Its Service Life?
Buyer questions about lifetime should not be answered with one nominal hour figure alone. Long-term operation depends on product design, environment, operating conditions, cleaning, serviceability and the ability to replace components when required.
JYVISIONS transparent LED systems use replaceable components. When needed, LED modules or sections, receiving cards, power supplies and HUB cards can be replaced instead of treating the complete display as one non-serviceable object.
JYVISIONS also provides standard spare parts with shipments. Spare planning reduces downtime and makes routine service more predictable.
Maintenance method depends on the product. LUCID can be cleaned by removing dust and gently cleaning accessible surfaces. Where PC protective panels are used, the protective surface can be cleaned directly using an appropriate soft cloth. FILM and INV require maintenance methods that match their specific surface and component structure.
For permanent commercial projects, maintenance access should be planned before the screen is manufactured.
For detailed serviceability, diagnosis and relocation guidance, see the transparent LED maintenance, repair and reuse guide.
Can Transparent LED Displays Be Reused?
Yes, but reusability depends on the product architecture.
Rigid, hanging, floor-standing and mobile transparent display formats can be designed around repeated deployment. INV poster formats are a clear example of a transparent product architecture intended for easy setup and redeployment.
Adhesive FILM is different because repeated removal and re-adhesion affects the bonding interface. If repeated rental-style use is a project requirement, tell JYVISIONS at the selection stage so the product and mounting strategy can be evaluated before ordering.
How Much Does a Transparent LED Display Cost?
Transparent LED cost depends on more than square meters.
Technology type, pixel pitch, brightness, display dimensions, protection, supporting structure, controller, customization, installation method, service access, logistics, commissioning and project documentation can all change the final scope.
For a standard commercial project, indicative product pricing can be useful during early budgeting. For a large building façade, highly customized geometry or project with significant structural interfaces, a responsible quotation normally follows basic engineering qualification.
For quotation readiness and apples-to-apples comparison, see the transparent LED pricing and quotation guide.
Think Beyond Price per Square Meter
A lower product price per square meter does not automatically create a lower total project cost.
Compare the complete system: display, supporting structure, electrical distribution, control system, installation, access, spare parts, maintenance, protection, logistics and technical support.
This is why JYVISIONS separates early budget guidance from a final project quotation when the engineering scope has not yet been defined.

How to Choose the Right Transparent LED Display?
Instead of starting with LUCID, FILM or INV, start with the project. JYVISIONS uses the following questions to organize the selection process. For the full decision process, see how to choose the right transparent LED display.
When Should You NOT Choose a Transparent LED Screen?
JYVISIONS does not recommend transparent LED for every digital display project.
If the project has no meaningful requirement to preserve visibility, daylight, products, architecture or spatial openness behind the screen, a conventional LED display may provide better image density, contrast or value.
Transparent LED also requires buyers to accept a balance between transparency and image performance. If maximum close-view image density is the only priority and transparency provides no useful project benefit, an opaque fine-pitch display may be the more logical choice.
Use transparency when transparency solves a real design or spatial problem.
What Information Should You Send for a Transparent LED Project?
A useful recommendation begins with project context. The information does not need to be perfect at the first inquiry, but it should define the real environment before the final product is selected.

Frequently Asked Questions About Transparent LED Displays
Why JYVISIONS for Transparent LED Projects?
JYVISIONS has developed transparent LED through three product generations — LUCID, FILM and INV — rather than treating transparent display as one fixed product.
That product history gives JYVISIONS practical experience with modular structures, adhesive film, highly transparent holographic LED architecture, glass integration, hanging and floor-standing formats, curved applications, large building projects and customized installation conditions.
JYVISIONS was established in 2012 and operates an approximately 20,000 m² manufacturing facility in Shenzhen. SMT, module assembly, cabinet assembly and brightness / color calibration are performed in-house. Standard complete-display aging is 72 hours, followed by final inspection and a QC report before shipment.
JYVISIONS provides a standard two-year warranty and standard spare parts provision for projects. For transparent LED installations, project drawings, installation guidance, remote technical support and replacement-component planning are integrated into the delivery process.
The goal is not to sell the newest transparent LED technology to every customer. It is to recommend the display architecture that fits the real project.
